EMI Canada Recording artist Amanda Stott, is recording John’s song “Getting There” co-written with frequent collaborator Patty Maloney and Andrew Fromm whose credits include Mark Anthony and the Backstreet Boys. Amanda’s record will be released on Virgin Records in the US. Also recording this song is Japanese artist Miho Fukuhara for Sony Music Records. It was released in 2008.
Dirty Dancing, Havana Nights was released in the theaters and it featured the theme of “I’ve Had The Time of My life” 6 times during the movie. It was used as underscoring in various scenes. Hungry Eyes has reemerged in the form of a hit dance tune in the U.K. Eyeopener has scored a hit with a remake of the song and landed at #16 on the top 40 chart in England. Dirty Dancing: The Play, opened in Australia on November 16, 2004. The musical includes “I’ve Had The time Of My life” , “Hungry Eyes” and also a new song entitled “Someone Like you” which was written by John DeNicola and Franke Previte back in 1988 as a follow up for Bill Medley. He never recorded it but it is now in the stage production. The show has also opened in Hamburg,Toronto, London and become the highest advance sales in West End Theater history. March ‘08, saw an opening of the play in Holland and Chicago, LA and Boston. The Hamburg show has moved to Berlin and is scheduled for Stuttgart in 2011. 2012 promises a new production that will tour Scandinavian countries.
John’s collaboration with Kristine W entitled "I’ll Be Your Light" reached #2 on the Billboard Dance Club Chart. She is currently enjoying her 9th straight #1 dance single making her the first artist to have that distinction.
Just finished a reworking of “Hold Me”, a song written with Sam Andrew of Big Brother and the Holding Company.
John will be mentioned as one of the Producers, along with Tommy Allen, who discovered and Produced Kara’a Flowers (now Maroon 5) first record (and signed them to their first recording contract) on an episode about Maroon 5 that will air on the TV Music show Fuse. Fuse is a show that is part of the Madison Square Garden Network.
John has been in the studio collaborating with Nate Campany and Kyle Patrick from the Click 5 for various artists.
Anders Fernette cover of "Hungry Eyes" recently went to #5 on the charts in Sweden.
The Big News is Black Eyed Peas smash up “The Time (dirty bit)” which is the first single from the forthcoming album “The Beginning”. It combines John’s song “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life” and BEP’s music with Will.i.am and Fergie singing the famous duet. “I think its a great opprtunity for a whole new generation to discover the song and enjoy dancing to it. Just heard it on Z100 in NYC and it sounded great coming over the radio..." said John.
